A Layover in Hong Kong and a Quick Flight to Singapore

After spending over 18 hours on American Airlines’ longest flight from Dallas / Ft. Worth to Hong Kong, I was quite ready to stretch my legs and move around.  We got to Hong Kong immigration after about five minutes and had about a ten minute wait to clear immigration.

Outside of immigration, we went by the Hong Kong Airport Express and MTR kiosk where I purchased a round trip transfer from Hong Kong Airport to Kowloon Station for HKD 160 (about USD $30).  The Airport Express is a direct rail link between the airport, Kowloon and Central Hong Kong that runs every ten minutes.  It is very quick and very efficient, as is much of the public transportation in Hong Kong.

We intentionally worked in a long, 22-hour layover in Hong Kong into our itinerary because, frankly, we all wanted to spend a night in Hong Kong!

A Weekend in Southeast Asia

From the Kowloon MTR Station, we hopped a quick cab to the Hyatt Regency Hong Kong – Tsim Sha Tsui.   We proceeded up to the Regency Club for checkin since my two friends have Diamond status with Hyatt.  It was a beautiful Friday night in Hong Kong!

I previously stayed at this same hotel four months earlier on another stay in Hong Kong, and reviewed it thoroughly in a previous post:  Review: Hyatt Regency Kong Kong, Tsim Sha Tsui

I checked into my room and was met with a brilliant view of Central Hong Kong.

I relaxed for about twenty minutes and checked in with friends and family.  Finally, I took a long-awaited and much needed shower before meeting up with my friends for a night out in Hong Kong.

And oh, we went out in Hong Kong.

I won’t cover the evening in detail, but we had an absolute blast.  Hong Kong is and has been my favorite city in the world, and I certainly enjoyed the night out in this vibrant city.   I’ve been to Hong Kong a number of times, including the aforementioned trip from last fall:  A Weekend in Hong Kong:  Ten Highlights

Before we knew it, it was early Saturday afternoon and was time to head back to Hong Kong International Airport for our late afternoon flight on Cathay Pacific to Singapore.  We checked in at the Kowloon Airport Express Station, which is incredibly convenient (one can also check-in and check bags at the Central Airport Express Station).  So once we got to the airport, we proceeded directly to security and immigration.  After about ten minutes, we headed to The Wing — one of the many Cathay Pacific lounges at Hong Kong International Airport.   We had access to the First Class section of The Wing, which I’ve covered extensively in a prior post:  Cathay Pacific’s “The Wing” Hong Kong

I was pretty hungry when we got there, so I ordered some soup and some dim sum, which I enjoyed along with a single malt.

After less than an hour in The Wing, it was time to head to our gate for our flight to Singapore.  We were flying economy on a Cathay Pacific B777-200.  Because of my American Executive Platinum and  oneworld Emerald Status, I was able to select an exit row seat 59H, which was nice.  It had pretty much infinite legroom.

At this point I was exhausted from lack of sleep.  On top of that, I was jet-lagged.  And frankly, I was dragging from a long night out in Hong Kong.  So I was out cold before we even took off.  I slept through all drink and food services and woke up upon landing at Singapore, some 3 hours and 45 minutes later.  And that would the reason why I have no flight review of this little hop — I have nothing to report other than I had an obscene amount of legroom and slept the whole time!

    1. Heh… quite bright. Either that, or my eyes looked like I’d been out all night and was having a rough day.
